The Haitian-American designer is creating work which 'speaks to the future of fashion' according to Milton Dixon III, the Empowered Vision Award programme director.
Schooled at Parsons in New York, Baptiste blends fashion, textiles, photography and cultural history to create interdisciplinary works interrogating the identity of the Caribbean diaspora. Previously, he's co-designed a collection for Converse, created a new colourway for the Energy Basketball team, and exhibited a solo show at the Museum Of Contemporary African Diasporan Arts. His most recent collection, Ti Marché, uses streetwear to highlight Haitian-American life, drawing inspiration from his own migration from Port-au-Prince to Miami. As the winner of the CFDA's Empowered Vision Award, a full year of mentorship awaits this promising young designer, and the fashion crowd eagerly awaits his catwalk return.
